Squid & Tabernacle presents They Don’t like Our Jokes Beacuse They Are So Stupid, a touring programme of international video art selected by Camilla Robinson, director of Dapper Films.
Through this programme, which includes work not seen before in the UK, Robinson explores the fundamental untranslatability of humour. The works in They Don’t Like Our Jokes Because They Are So Stupid are taken from the archive of Project Space 1646 in The Hague, an artist-led initiative which promotes exchanges between national and international artists.

5 min
"Indiana Audunsdottir’s videos explore myths of femininity and its refusal in a quasi–ridiculous way (...) her ambiguous treatment of mythical or heroic figures reflects her passion for the ‘secondary’ – the legend stripped of all but its titillating consumability (...) aiming towards an extreme version of a once acceptable ideal..” (Excerpt text by Fiona Macdonald, curator Standpoint Gallery)
Audunsdottir was born in Iceland and studied at Slade School of Art, London.

Jacqueline Forzelius, The community gives me validity, 2007.
7 min 40 sec
In Forzelius’ art there is always a game to be played. It is a game which exists for its own sake rather for that of its players. In this game, where the rules are formed by solutions to non-existant problems, the artist is both “games-master” and participant. It is silly and pathetic, but something is at stake, and it’s not a joke.
Forzelius lives and works in Bergen, Norway.

Nina Yuen, Don, 2006.
8 min 1 sec
"My work engages with the production of false personal memories, and with stirring disagreements about the past in the accounts of my family and friends. I regard myself primarily as a passive artist; my work is created at the intersection of a recorded document and a lifestyle that I adopt. For the taping of each film, I live for at least a week in a constructed environment, with its own conventions governing ceremony, behavior, and dress. "
Born in Hawaii, Yuen lives and works in Amsterdam.
