As part of our Geography of The Artist's Studio programme Jenny Sjöholm will be in residence at the archive of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.

Jenny is a geographer working at the intersections between arts and economy with particular focus on the social and economic geographies of the art world. She is is a post-doctoral research fellow in the Department of Social and Economic Geography at Uppsala University.

Her research concerns art market intermediaries, contemporary private art collectors, cultural labour, small-scale cultural entrepreneurship and artistic practice, skills and knowledge.

Currently Jenny is involved in a three-year research programme focused on quality defining processes in the art market, she also teaches on a variety of courses at the Department of Social and Economic Geography, Uppsala University.

During her doctorate period she spent one year as a visiting Scholar at Royal Holloway, University of London. She defended her PhD thesis ”The geographies of knowledge (in making) artwork: the field, the art studio and the art scene” in November 2010 at Uppsala University.

In addition to her academic work she is planning and organizing exhibitions and events at art museums and galleries in Sweden and working as a senior consultant on matters related to cultural industries and regional development.

The Royal British Society of Sculptors has been operating as an independant artist-led organisation since 1905, receiving royal patronage in 1911. Using the unique resource provided by the archive, the residency will explore the social, creative and economic roles of the artist's studio throughout the history of The Society.
